Emerging from the UK’s always fertile experimental circles, Five The Hierophant have set themselves apart thanks to a uniquely distinctive sound that pairs slowed-down repetitive riffing with psychedelic and jazzy elements, in a sonic concoction that is as hard to describe as it is potent, and euphoric. Five The Hierophant are a rare beast, capable of instilling both fear and awe in the listener, thanks to their menacing sound.

Bleak, sprawling, and ritualistic, Five The Hierophant’s sonicscapes possess a unique trance-inducing quality, which favours build-up by repetition built on massive riff upon massive riff. These immense walls of sound, with their repetitive riffing, their raw magnetism, and incessant advance take full control of the listener, never relenting from their ironclad grip. Their slow yet inexorable progression makes these songs all the more ominous and their rich suspenseful nature gifts them of a uniquely foreboding quality.

While their 2021 effort “Through Aureate Void” crushed the listener under the weight of its more metallic and angular sonic approach, its 2024 counterpart “Apeiron” presented us with a sound that is perfectly suspenseful and positively frightening. With a more controlled compositional approach, an expanded repertoire of sounds and influences (saxophone, music saw, zither a wide range of percussions), Five The Hierophant tapped deeper into their shamanic powers and evoked an untameable spirit.
