American eclectic duo LEYA has always put experimentation to the forefront of their creative endeavour, out of a desire to bring classic and modern together but also to create something uniquely and highly personal. Composed by harpist Marilu Donovan and violinist and singer Adam Markiewicz, LEYA’s music eschews definition and categorisation and is best described as a conceptual, revolving more around the duo’s relationship with one another and their own instruments, than any concrete style or genre. Constantly in a dialogue with one another, Donovan and Markiewicz, build haunting and chilling sonicscapes, where harp and voice, where old and modern are juxtaposed, seamlessly blended or set against one another.

These tense sonic narratives carry not only through each consecutive track, but also through each consecutive project, generating a continuous conversation around musical standards, compositional approaches and art at large. LEYA’s approach to composition favours the immediate and visceral, with each track brimming with a sense of urgency that is immediately impactful. These ethereal compositions often carry with them a sinister and spectral undertone, foreboding impending catastrophe, yet never resounding oppressive or claustrophobic thanks to lush arrangements and the uplifting quality of Markiewicz’s singing. As much as their classical music background is ever present, LEYA push the boundaries of what can be considered “classical” in what can only be described as an unquenchable thirst for growth, both personal and musical. that transcend all styles and genres.
