Klidas (it)

15:30 - 16:20 / Balzaal

Lovers of jazz rejoice for Klidas we’ll be adding the magic word to “post-rock and all that jazz” when they bring their eclectic style to the festival this year! This Italian sextet blew us away with their irresistible Tortoise-meets-The-Seatbelts style, filled with as many canonic crescendos as full-out improv. climaxes! The band’s debut record “No Harmony” was released last year, and is a shimmering display of jazzy goodness! Supported by infectious sax solos, groovy guitars and swinging keyboards, the record is a sultry display of sheer compositional brilliance, completed by a colourful and evocative sound palette. In just six tracks “No Harmony” offers a full display of Klidas artistic capabilities, layering as many “moods” as you can count them, sonically exploring the boundaries of rock fusion. “Not to Dissect” is contagious with its explosive dramatic cheerfulness, whereas “Arrival” and “Shores” offer two more introspective moments (the latter even a killer guitar solo) showing a diverse skillset and a surprisingly mature aptitude for playing with free compositional forms without losing focus of the main picture.

With Samuele De Santis’ sax playing a key role in the score, rather than being relegated a guest appearance, Klidas’ jazzy-post-fusion bright pastel compositions are fully immersive and irresistibly catchy. This exhilarating mix totally won us over and we’re excited to add Klidas to our growing roaster of bands who push the boundaries of post-rock beyond the unexpected.
