Aufhebung (be)

The newest kid around the (post-rock) block hails from Brussels and is called Aufhebung. These lads might be young, but they're not green, they're 100% dark as coal, their bleak and oppressive soundscapes ready to envelop you in a cold and chilling embrace. Their bludgeoning riffs will crush you without hopes for reprieve or redemption for Aufhebung are all about sonic extremes!

Fresh off the release of “Luchtbegrafenis” on dunk!records earlier this year, Aufhebung will unleash some of these crushing riffs on the main stage in a epic opening set! On their sophomore album, the band explores the opposition between life and death, growth and decay, through the lens of ‘ritual’. The fleeting fragility of life and materiality are pitted against their direct opponents, the totality of death and passing. Along six sweeping, densely layered songs the band explores themes of mass-consumption, ecocide, technological dominance, and religion. At once ruthless and delicate, “Luchtbegrafenis” (Sky Burial in Dutch) weaves a dark quilt of patterns highly reminiscent of sludge and doom metal, crust punk, and Eastern European classical music and of sheer beauty.

Landing the opening spot at dunk!festival 2026 is further proof of Aufhebung's talent and ambition. We cannot wait to get the party started in their company, and yours.
