Capitan (be)

Friday May 15th
13:30 - 14:10 / Main Stage

Those of you who attended our 2024 edition will remember the hectic series of announcements when not one but two bands unfortunately had to cancel last minute on Thursday morning. Fortunately for us, but especially for you, progressive metal quintet Capitan came to the rescue, showing up for a high intensity show with no sound-check and only a two-hour notice!

We already knew we had to invite them again, even just to reward their truly DIY spirit, but more so after witnessing their crushing set. Chunky bass, catchy riffs and rhythms, and a penchant for atmospheric build-ups, Capitan keep in with the new Belgian metal tradition of adding a healthy dose of grooves to a languid atmospheric basis. Add a touch of post-rock sentimentality to boot and you have the killer sound we simply can’t get enough of!

In between their two festival appearances, Capitan have honed on their sound even more, offering a stellar “Facing Currents” which we gladly pressed for them at dunk!pressing. Across its 40-something runtime, the album drags the listener across different stages of sorrow and grief, before arriving, slowly, but yieldingly at a kind of inner peace. With full dunk! endorsement the record sold out in a month, further proof of just how good these guys are! And in case you needed further assurance, their almost back-to-back festival appearances are the perfect stamp of approval.
