Circus Trees (usa)
Thursday May 14th
17:50 - 18:35 / Forest Stage
Another band that amazed us at last year’s Post.Festival, Circus Trees are a fresh new voice in the American alternative scene. Hailing from Marlborough, Massachusetts and led by sisters Edmee and Fin, Circus Trees infuse their indie rock with a melancholic sentiment and confessional character resulting in songs with a unique visceral character.
It’s always painful to hear young people speak with this much sadness in their hearts, but Circus Tree buzz, hum and bellow through gloom, melancholy, and sorrow, with such brutal honesty to offer both a compelling and devastating sonic narrative. See it a canvas on which to paint Munch-esque nightmarish visions, a sheet on which to write feverish and bleak music scores, or an invitation to open up about what weighs you down, Circus Trees are leaving the door open for all sorts of discourses, instilling a peculiar therapeutic character to their tormented and distressed compositions.
Circus Trees describe their music as deeply “rooted in the wastelands of suburbia, reflective of their own personal pains and tragedies, but relatable to humans of every age, culture, and lifestyle”. Brimming with emotions, Circus Trees wield an anguish that beckons. Droning through a weighty sadness, their musical spell extends a hand, instead of turning in on itself, offering an open invitation to all misery-loving company, continuing to spin this sadness into listless post-rock.
