Her Name Is Calla (uk)
Friday May 15th
21:50 - 22:40 / Forest Stage
Leicester's finest post- acts, and one of Britain's most peculiar bands, Her Name Is Calla have spent two decades occupying a space somewhere between light and darkness, calm and chaos, romantic musings and screaming apocalypses. Formed in 2004 by songwriter Tom Morris, her Name Is Calla are known for their unique blend of post-rock and folk-ish singer-songwriter elements which gift their compositions of a compelling storytelling quality. With soaring strings, haunting vocals, and a live presence that commands attention, Her Name Is Calla are a welcome return Zottegem, where they recorded their “2019 live album” a glorious celebration of all things post-rock with a bittersweet note; it ended up being of the band’s last shows in a long while.
Shortly after, dunk!records also proudly released a special 10th Anniversary reissue of their classic record “Animal Choir” another decidedly gripping ordeal. Built largely about varying dynamics, ebb and flow, and the interplay of hushed balladry and fiery crescendos, the album proudly stood as a definitive statement and a perfect summation of everything Her Name Is Calla has accomplished throughout their career. Featuring a richly textured landscape, valuing the elegance of stillness alongside the roaring of unhindered emotion, and the juxtaposition of patient craftsmanship against unflinching anthem-like blasts, “Animal Choir” stood as a highlight of our “X series” album reissues.
The closest thing to “post-rock opera” we can think of and simply put one of the most iconic albums on our label, Her Name Is Calla is finally back where it all started. We’re all quite waiting for their return to the forest while basking in the afterglow of that one last unforgettable last show; get ready for what will be another truly unmissable dunk!festival 2026 set!
