L.O.E (uk)

Friday May 15th
15:10 - 15:50 / Main Stage

L.O.E (Last of Eden) are a post-rock band from Halifax, UK with a strikingly original vision: rather than using a conventional vocalist, they weave speech samples from historical figures into their music, letting the words of some of the most influential philosophers, scientists, and activists of our time serve as a frontman of sorts. These samples serve as an emotional “vessel”, connecting band and listener, and offering a commentary of our current times. This unconventional compositional approach has garnered L.O.E plenty of attention and accolades, including a BBC 6 Music “an absolutely epic debut,” review for their LP “The World and Everything in It” (2023).

The band’s commentary captures anything from society's greatest achievements to its biggest failures. Our sense of wonderment and wanderlust, our ingenuity and desire for discovery, our idiosyncratic relationship with nature and with each other and our drive for destruction and annihilation are scored through expansive, and bombastic post-rock soundtrack of truly unparalleled cinematic quality.

The band’s newest album “Chiaroscuro” is a record of rare emotional gravity, raw exploration of life’s duality influenced by bassist Ben Walsh's ongoing battle with Chronic Kidney Disease. Juxtaposing light and darkness, joy and sadness L.O.E have once again reminded us of life’s outmost fragility, and therefore, true worth.
