Summer Fades Away (chn)
Saturday May 16h
17:50 - 18:35 / Forest Stage
We first heard of Summer Fades Away at the 2024 Offside Festival, and their show, set against the enchanting backdrop of a cloud forest diving into the ocean definitely piqued our interest. However, it was only after witnessing their 2025 album “Endless” in all its glory that we decided to book them.
This record is everything we love about post-rock; fifty enthralling minutes of glorious climaxes, gripping crescendoes, and bombastic riffing spiced up by the band’s unique background. Summer Fades Away, in fact, are none other than one of China's most treasured post-rock acts, and a true household name in the local Chinese scene. Hailing from Changsha, they are prime example of how China has created its own vibrant post-rock scene predominantly through weaving classical Far-Eastern influences into the sonic foundations of the European and American canons, and a constant re-elaboration of post-rock almost dogmatic norms and rules.
This latest album not only cements Summer Fades Away cult status, but also breaks a 13-year hiatus, presenting us a newly inspired band who are now true masters of their own craft and fully aware of their potential. Through seven elegant and unforgettable tracks, Summer Fades Away paint evocative soundscapes of sweeping force and sheer beauty, highly reminiscent of We Lost The Sea, and we dare say, equally as epic. “Endless” explores themes of personal growth, the passage of time, and conflict in our ever-changing world, all through the lenses of China’s most singular culture and tradition. It is not only a remarkable comeback album, but also one of the finest post-rock albums we’ve heard in a very long time.
Their appearance at Europe's most celebrated post-rock event also marks their European debut, and a rare opportunity for European audiences to experience a piece of Chinese post-rock history in the flesh. To celebrate this special milestone dunk!records is happy to offer a remastered and reworked vinyl edition of the album, available just in time for the band’s first-ever European show.
